Teenage Pregnancy Help: Understanding Your Rights as a Teen Birth Mother

Dealing with a teenage pregnancy can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to face it alone. Help is available.

Choosing adoption is not about giving up. It’s about making a loving decision for your child’s future. Adoption allows your baby to grow up in a stable, nurturing home, while allowing you to continue your education, pursue your goals, and build the life you envision.

Colorado Christian Services (CCS) is a trusted adoption agency in Colorado, offering free and confidential support to those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Whether you are considering parenting or adoption, CCS is here to walk alongside you every step of the way without pressure or judgment.

Key Services We Offer

  • Pregnancy counseling: Talk with a caseworker about your options — parenting or adoption — with no cost and no judgment.
  • Options counseling: You get information to help you make your own decisions about your pregnancy and future.
  • Support if you choose to parent: We will help you plan for pregnancy, birth, and parenting, including basic baby items and referrals to other support services.
  • Help with practical needs: Referrals for medical care, food, housing, and transportation assistance.
  • Adoption support: If you choose adoption, we help you create an adoption plan, including picking a family, birth plan preferences, and legal steps.
  • Continued support after birth: Post-placement Care : CCS continues to provide emotional support after the birth because your well-being matters. We’re here for you for as long as you would like after placement.

Your Rights as a Teenage Birth Mother

When you are pregnant — especially as a teen — it’s important to know your rights. These apply whether you choose to parent the child yourself or consider adoption:

  • CCS will provide unbiased information about your options without pressuring you.
  • You have the right to ask questions about your choices, risks, and long-term implications.
  • You choose whether you want to parent or pursue adoption. CCS supports both.
  • If you choose adoption, you have control over how much contact you want with the adoptive family and what your birth plan looks like.

What to Ask When You Contact CCS

When you reach out for help, here are some things you might ask:

  • “Can you explain all my options — parenting and adoption — without pressure?”
  • “What support do you give before and after my baby is born?”
  • “Can you help me understand my rights and options as a teen?”
  • “Are there resources for housing, school, or childcare?”
  • “Can you help me with doctor appointments and basic needs?”

You’re Not Alone

Whether you choose to parent, pursue adoption, or explore both, support is available — and you have the right to:

  • Confidential care
  • Respectful and unbiased counseling
  • Clear and accurate information to make your own choice
  • Resources and help for pregnancy-related needs
